IBM? a Global Technology Company. That's what I consider IBM at the first time. But what they actually do? That was my big question in mind. Two things came into my mind. First, IBM Indonesia has the youngest director - Gunawan Susanto. He was appointed in 35 years old, what an inspiration! Second, IBM Indonesia collaboration with Bandung Mayor to build Bandung smart city.
I started my journey with IBM in Sept 2016, right in my birthday I flew to Malaysia. Unexpectedly I met my former CEO and CTO in airport, What a day!. We spent time to talked and shared each other... "it's been difficult to develop people and now taken by others", she joked, lol.
Well here I'm, Srikandi Surabaya who try to unleash my potential with the oldest&biggest IT company in the world. TheBigBlue. As time goes by, now I know what IBM is really doing,! But here I won't share about IBM business,-you can google them anyway here I want to share my thoughts on how having "life in IBM" as millenial.
A Big Machine
TheBigBlue. Giant and Oldest IT company in the world that provides end to end solutions and services for IT industry. The organization structure is big and matrix. You can have more than 4 managers to report. Multiple department and division with their own culture and target/KPI, which trains us to work with many different people, yet strengthen collaboration to achieve ONEIBM goal.
Provide Ecosystem of Learning and Networking Globally
A big pool of knowledge and knowledgeable resources. When it comes to Tech, IBM is numero uno, hardware pioneer, cloud and cognitive system even now move to quantum computers, IBM is always spawning world-leading technologies. Yet here people are not stingy to share their knowledge however as long as we have great curiousity and awareness to learn more, to understand more, not only for what we have but also for what happened in the market, we can still be relevant and not left behind.
Another point is IBM also provide a good ecosystem to build network -locally and globally, this is a good place to establish global network and friendship.
Offers More Flexibility
One example is the working hours. IBM provide dozen of tools to make the work more flexible, so we can work "anywhere" and "anytime", especially Sales, their working time is flexible, as long as you don't mess up with your number -_-.
Provide a Place to PayItForward
Here I can have many opportunities to payitforward (internally/externally). IBM has a wide range of social activities that have a direct impact to society. Such as tech training, apps, social movement and many more. For me its good since I love doing social activities as a part of being grateful and having relaxation.
Stay hungry, stay foolish, stay curious, be open minded, never stop learning, never stop growing and never stop to give value beyond -wherever you are!
“You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever." Steve Jobs.
"Before you turn 20 years old, be a good student.
Before you turn 30 years old, follow somebody. it’s not which company you go to, it’s which boss you follow. A good boss teaches you differently.
Between 30 and 40 years old, you need to think clearly whether you want to work for yourself, or if you really want to be an entrepreneur.
When you’re between 40 and 50 years old, you must do all the things that you are good at.
But when you are 50 to 60 years old, work for the young people.
Because young people can do better than you. So rely on them, invest in them, and make sure they’re good.
When you are over 60 years old, spend time on yourself. On the beach, sunshine, it’s too late for you to change.
here's my advice to young people: make enough mistakes, don't worry if you fall, you stand, you fall, you stand, enjoy it! enjoy the show!" Jack Ma.
