In the world full of machines, people need to stretch CREATIVITY and EMPATHY.
When I was living in Singapore, I found it difficult to find a tailor, it is rarely there cause in the advanced country "time is money" so you'd better spend a little bit more money than wasting your time, so everything fast, instant and in order/rigid.
Back to the tailor, that time I only found one small tailor in one of traditional market around my area, hiding in the corner of the shops, the service price is not cheap, you need to spend 10-15SGD(120,000-160,000IDR just to remedy the trouser, make it bigger or smaller, fyi that's the average price of the tailor there, "so don't be surprised"!😁. So I end up sewing it by my self, fortunately I can do it.
While in Indonesia you can find dozen of tailor around your area, they are everywhere, and the price is very cheap, usually I only spend 5000-10,000 IDR to remedy my trousers, fyi that's the average price of tailor service in Indonesia.
From that we can learn that in the advanced country like Singapore, SKILLS IS "EXPENSIVE" because it is "RARE", when everything goes easy with machine, the human skills like "sewing" becomes rare and exceptional, while in the country like Indonesia the human skills like that still VERY MUCH that is why it is becomes "VERY CHEAP", but I'm sure slowly but sure Indonesia will start to APPRECIATE THE TREASURE that we HAVE, Don't complain about what we don't have YET. We have a lot of hidden potentials but sometimes we didn't REALIZE it.
One of the richness of Indonesia is on the HUMAN itself, beyond the the population, Indonesian has innate skills of Creativity, the shortage doesn't make Indonesian give up, this even makes the fighting spirit or the power of kefefet is burning😁😊. when you go to countryside you will find a lot of artist create "mahakarya" masterpiece from cow bones, fish bones, shells, painting from clay/coffee powder, batik mangrove, batik from dry leaves, tenun from enceng gondok/wild flower, bag from pandanus, etc, but some of them are still lack of appreciation.
Don't underestimate this skills, as this is the to cultivate RESILIENCE in your life, as life will always go ups and down, then how we applied to our daily lifes.
In example, when I couldn't find a hanger to hang my clothes in my apartment in Singapore, I modify broom stick and items hooks from groceries to create my own hanger using the remaining skills as Telco engineer graduate 😆, the result is not bad and problem solved. 😎
The second skill is EMPATHY, for this you can not FAKE IT or MAKE IT, it is naturally & genuinely comes INSIDE yourself, it comes with "EXPERIENCE". Maybe some of them can fake it but it won't last!! and it is not defined by visible stuff like how successful you are, your title, monies, handsome/beautiful face etc, cause it is INVINSIBLE, in my career journey so far I've met a lot of great leaders and only some of them has the real empathy towards the employee, some of them only use this as a jargon, words without actions. While for me, this is one of the VALUE that I cannot compromise beside the INTEGRITY. Because in the end, we are all a HUMAN BEING. So be grateful if you face adversity, pain, sorrow in your life that's the opportunity to sharpen your empathy to yourself and to others.
